UETDRRF01 - Apply ESI safety rules, codes of practice and procedures for work on or near electrical apparatus

This course provides participants with the necessary skills to provide immediate emergency response in the event of a low voltage (LV) electric shock.
Learners will develop competency in the performance of rescue procedures from live Low Voltage (LV) apparatus in the work place.
It specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a live LV panel and how they apply in your work functions.
It encompasses responsibilities for health, safety and risk management processes and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of performing work.

This unit is appropriate for ESI employees for authorization/approval to work on ESI Networks

Learning activities include trainer led presentations, group discussions, practical demonstrations & exercises.
The course covers:
1) Common electrical hazards associated with work on/near electrical panels;
2) Electric shock response procedures and emergency procedures
3) Low voltage rescue kit contents, its inspection requirements and its use in an emergency situation.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
1) Identify and mitigate electrical hazards;
2) Utilize electric shock and site emergency response procedures;
3) Effectively use a fire blanket to extinguish flames;
4) Effectively inspect and use the items contained in the low voltage rescue kit;
5) Perform CPR

Students are required to wear PPE (shirt, trousers, boots, safety glasses, safety boots, hard hat) for performance of practical exercises.

Written theory assessment, scenario based practical assessments and oral assessment.

To participate in this course, learners are required to:
1) have current certification in the required prerequisites.
2) be literate in spoken English and competent in reading, writing, and numeracy.
3) be sufficiently fit to undertake practical assessment requirements.

UETDRRF02 - Perform pole top rescue

This course provides participants with the necessary skills to provide immediate emergency response in the event of a pole top emergency situation.
Learners will develop competency in the performance of pole top rescue procedures.
It addresses the mandatory knowledge and skills requirements to perform rescue operations in accordance with the relevant procedures/codes of practice/regulations and safety and risk management.

This unit is appropriate for NSW Accredited Service Providers, ESI network contractors and/or ESI network employees where authorisation to access or work on ESI Networks requires Pole Top Rescue competency.

Learning activities include trainer led presentations, group discussions, practical demonstrations & exercises.
The course covers:
1) Common electrical hazards associated with work on/near electrical panels;
2) Electric shock response procedures and emergency procedures
3) Low voltage rescue kit contents, its inspection requirements and its use in an emergency situation.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
1) Identify, control and mitigate hazards associated with performing pole top rescue;
2) Utilise pole top rescue emergency response procedures;
3) Inspect and determine the serviceability of pole top rescue equipment.
4) Identify and apply isolation procedures where applicable
5) Identify and maintain Safe Approach Distances (SADs) appropriate to voltage levels during pole top rescue
6) Removing victim to safe location utilising appropriate rescue technique and relevant safety and lowering equipment
7) Complete relevant paperwork such as incident reports

Learners are required to have the following to participate in this course:
1) PPE consisting of Hard Hat, Safety Footwear, Approved Hi-Vis Clothing, Safety Glasses.
2) Height safety equipment (e.g. Harness, pole straps ect) as per company procedures
3) Stationary (e.g. Pen, Pencil, etc.)

Learners will be assessed using a combination of the following methods:
1) Theory/Written Assessment (e.g. Short Answer Questions, Multiple Choice)
2) Direct Observation/Practical Assessment (e.g. response to scenario based emergency simulation)
